If your playing any kind of online game then your constantly sending information back and fore. Any kind of monthly limit is not going to like online gaming.

Unless you're downloading the entire client it's unlikely you'll use 3GB from GW alone, but you will need to keep an eye on your general usage as well.

Most MMORPG style of games have resonably low overheads, and ISPs like game players as they use much less bandwidth that even general internet users do.

I'm affraid to say it, but I agree with this guy. ISPs with download limits and other restrictions are horrible.

Most ISPs that have limits are Satellite providers. In those cases, the users don't have much choice... They usually have satellite because they can't get Cable or DSL and don't want Dial-up.

It's easier to say "get a better ISP" when you yourself have a good connection.
When I had 56K, several years ago, I recall everyone knowing how to use a keyboard told me "get broadband". Do you know how bloody annoying it can be?
If the guy has a 3GB limit, it's not because he WANTS to. In countries like Russia or Australia the prices on broadband are hair-raising. I am glad I can get limitless broadband for less than 40$ Can per month, yet I know the price of 56K is 40$ US per month in Russia.

i have to agree.
a 3GB/month limit is completely unacceptable!
i wouldnt even stand for a 3GB/week cap

and for something more constructive:
find you a decent bandwidth meter program and do some tests to evaluate how much bandwidth GW sucks up.
I havent done stuff like that in a while so i can make any suggestions for a program to use but like someone already said: GW will not eat 3GB a month, but if you are doing other stuff with your bandwidth, i do believe it could make or break that cap

I have a 3 gig limit too and i'm also worried about that. I didn't have a choice, my isp gave me a free upgrade to my broadband(double the old speed I had) but failed to mention that it would come with a limit(it was unlimited till the upgrade).
If they had told me I would have stuck with my old speed.

yeah my internet speed is 1mb/s , I like the fact that i get speeds off 100+kb/s but i dont like the download limit atall....

Too find your download speed Divide the speed of your internet connect by 8
e.g
128k would be 128000 / 8 = 16000
16kb/s thats the average speed you would get, It can change depending on, download availability , if your downloading more than one thing or using messenger while downloading , Even your pc spec could affect it. but thats old pc's tho

That's why it's a good idea to read (or ask for) the agreement before signing up for new plans.

Either way - you can get yourself a program that would monitor your bandwith usage (I use DUMeter - more on that later) or you could get a router which would turn off internet usage at certain time of day (ex - 10pm to 8am).

Going back to DUMeter. It is a good program, but there's one thing that you have to consider - if you have more than one computer on the network and all have access to the internet, then you have to keep that in mind because it monitors only the computer on which it is installed. It is also possible that your ISP has a web account for you that would show you your monthly usage.

P.S. I have Verizon DSL and pay about $33/month ($29 + bs fees) for 3/768 plan. It is unlimited service, but I use DUMeter because I like to have an activity icon on my desktop which would indicate if my computer is accessing the internet, how much I've downloaded/uploaded per month, and what my speed is. The one that comes with Windows is simply not up to the job.

I agree. There's no point for companies to offer high speed service when you can't have the full freedom of using it. What's the point of caps anyway? Not like it's gonna help solve software piracy.

unless you're a download fiend, 3 gigs of download bandwidth should be more then enough

....on a side note, its not uncommon for me to blow through my 20 gig download limit, accursed anime series :|

Most cable providers have limits as well they're simply more difficult to reach, I got the highest home use package without having to pay for a business line and I get 8 gig down 3 up for a months usage they won't say anything unless I top 10 in concurrent months, they didn't like when I ran an fserver on undernet for like 5 months lol
